This Is Not Acceptable

But, oh, only kidding, so it doesn't matter. I'll let it go with these responses from some smart writers here and here.

Shepherd, yes (mostly), but Hopper not so much. For me Hopper starts edging too much into territory where all of a sudden we're only going to be allowed to like certain types of art, ones that don't evince "male priveledge" (I put it in quotation marks not because I believe it's mythical - I put it there because once actual examples are cited, sightings tend to run wild and _end up_ in the mythical).

It actually pisses me off that I can't just say I agree wholeheartedly with Hopper, but I can't. And I can't quite articulate why without writing a book, I suppose, and if it did I suppose it would wind up being an example of the same phenomena. No, I don't think Hopper is "a castrating feminist who is easily offended", I'm not trying to get at her by saying that anything I say about this can and will ultimately be dismissed by some as evidence of my own complicity in patriarchy (neither am I saying necessarily she'd be one of those people, cause I don't know), but it doesn't leave me, or us I guess, very much room to maneouvre.

And Hopper's quite a bad writer. It's impossible to parse her sentences.

Here, while ranting, yes. Generally, though, I like to read her.
