The Stylus Singles List

Stylus has finished its top 40 singles of the year list. Tomorrow, I think, we'll get the individual writers' lists.

It's a phenomenal feature -- looks great and the writing's incredible. Now if only #1 wasn't such a disappointment...

I can't say I loved "Take Me Out" that much (#11 on my first list, I think), but is it really that bad? Honestly, it sounds better to me every time I hear it.

So as I scrolled down through the top 10 I was beginning to despair at all the utter shite in it, & then I saw the No.1. I beg to differ, my friend, I was not disappointed at all. In fact I was elated to see justice being done. A victory for quality tunes & a victory for British music! Hurrah!

Not a band tune at all (#20 on my final list), but surely not deserving of being the best track of the year. I'm curious to see tomorrow if what happened is that almost everyone had it in the middle of their list, allowing enough points to cumulate to reach #1.

It's a good, updated take on post-punk, but just not the best.

I have to say, it's also my assumption that is was a lot of #10 placings and so on that allowed Franz Ferdinand to come out on top.
